You can spend hours a day working on your blog, pouring your heart out or sharing everything you know about your area of expertise. But how do you make your readers believe what you’re saying or feeling? Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger blog post, “12 Ways to Make Your Blog Posts More Credible,” will give you a few clues.
- Use rich, vivid detail. When you use rich, vivid language, words that paint vivid pictures in your reader’s mind, she tends to believe what you are saying because she can see it for herself. Storytellers are amazing and can draw in their audience with their words. It’s a skill that takes time to master (I’m still working on it) but being able to illustrate a story with your words can make your writing more powerful.
- Use sequencing or process description. In some cases, it may be appropriate to describe the steps involved in achieving an outcome. A list of numbered steps would be a good example of this. A video demonstrating the steps is another option.
- Use a photograph depicting the article topic in action. Have you noticed how the news media use intriguing photos to pull you into the article by attracting your attention? Finding photos can be challenging but they add interest to your site and may create interest in your blog post.
- Use personal stories or anecdotes. If you have stories or anecdotes relevant to the point you want to make in your article, use them. If the story has nothing to do with the topic you’re discussing but you feel you need to share it, post it on Facebook or save it for another, more relevant blog post. Or share it at your next party.
