My blog has an unusual and unpredictable traffic pattern. When I’m quoted in an article, my traffic increases. During Working Naked Day, my numbers spiked. While I can’t count on national articles or mentions from other sites to drive traffic, the one surefire way to drive up my numbers is to write guest blog posts. Denise Wakeman, online marketing advisor and founder of The Blog Squad shares that tip and others in her blog post “19 tips for driving traffic to your blog.” The following are some of her best tips:
- Publish as frequently as possible. That’s easier than it sounds but it’s true. The more you post, the more visible you are.
- Pay attention to the headlines (blog post titles). Using numbers usually generates good traffic. I need to add numbers to my double entendre headlines (but notice the headline)!
- Post your articles at EzineArticles.com and include a link to your blog in your author resource box. That drives traffic to your article which drives traffic back to your blog. This takes time but trust me, this works.
- Comment on blogs in your industry. When you comment, you have the option to include the URL to your blog. This is easier than the next tip but is still effective. It only works if you include your URL.
- Do some guest posting. Writing on other people’s blogs can introduce you to a new audience and create a surge of new traffic to your blog. This tip works hands down. Writing more guest posts is on my to-do list for next week.
